Catholic Cub, Boy, and Girl Scouts, BSA Venturing, American Heritage Girls, Junior Daughters of the Americas, and Camp Fire Boy and Girls are assisted in doing their "Duty to God" through age-appropriate religious emblems. Cub and Boy Scout emblems are developed by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting®. Girl Scout, American Heritage Girls, Junior Daughters of the Americas, and Camp Fire religious emblems are developed by the National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire. Both emblems programs are administered locally by the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Committee on Scouting. Catholic Cub and Boy Scout and Venturing emblemsThe Light of Christ emblem is available for Catholic Cub Scouts in grades 1-2.
The Parvuli Dei emblem is available to Catholic Cub Scouts in grades 3-5. Both
emblems are family-based and take 2-3 months to complete. The Cub Scout emblems
can be started at any time of the year as long as they are completed by the
end of second grade (Light of Christ) or before the boy crosses over to Boy
Scouts (or fifth grade, which ever comes first for Parvuli Dei). Catholic Girl Scouts USA, American Heritage Girls, Junior Daughters of the Americas, and Camp Fire Boy and Girls emblemsThe Family of God emblem is available to members in grades 2-3 and takes 3-6 months to complete. The I Live My Faith emblem is available for members in grades 4-6 and takes 3-6 months to complete. The Mary, the First Disciple emblem is available to members in grades 7-10 and takes one school year to complete. The Spirit Alive emblem is available for members in grades 9-12 and takes one school year to complete. The Mary, the First Deciple and Spirit Alive programs start each fall so that it can be completed by the April Board of Review. Review and RecognitionReligious emblems participants should work through their Religious Emblems counselor to inform the diocesan committee that work has started on the emblem. Most emblems require review and sign-off at the parish level for completion. Emblems for the older youth may also require a Board of Review at the diocesan level. These boards are typically held in April of each year. Youth that complete the Ad Altare Dei, Pope Pius XII, Mary, the First Disciple, and Spirit Alive, and adults nominated for Adult Recognition Awards receive their emblems/awards at a diocese-wide celebration in May. In 2009, these emblems will be awarded in December to coincide with the diocese' 40th anniversary. All other emblems are awarded at the parish level at an appropriate ceremony. |
